Parrot Tulip Revealed - 25" x 25"

Inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe and her close up vision of the interior life in flowers.  

I am fascinated by something that I cannot have....tulips.  Parrot tulips especially draw my eye and the voles, chipmunks and squirrels feel the same.  I plant and they eat.  

Materials: 16mm Habotai high quality silk, varnished on to 1 3/4" gallery canvas. Parrot Tulip is enhanced by a beautiful solid wood black frame  - #SP2 from pictureframes.com.  Framed size: 25 3/4" x 25 3/4.

The process: The Karen Sistek Magic Sizing stop flow method was used to treat silk before painting with Jacquard Red Label French silk dyes. Check out the process photos.  The silk was then steamed, washed, and ironed before carefully varnishing on to canvas. An extra coat of UV quality varnish was the last coat and enhances the sheen of the natural silk.
